New .au domain names will be available in Australia on March 24th 2022

New .au domain names will be available in Australia beginning March 24, 2022. As of
this date, individuals, businesses, and organisations with an Australian presence will
be able to register a name that comes before the.au domain. In contrast to other
namespaces,.au domain names are not required to match the name of a person,
company, or organisation, or to indicate the goods or services provided. The.au
namespace will enable the registration of shorter, arguably more distinct domain
names.

If there is only one owner of a comparable domain name in an Australian namespace
and that owner applies for the.au domain name within six months of March 24, 2022,
the.au domain name will be granted quickly. If two or more owners of comparable
domain names in the Australian namespace apply for the.au domain name by
September 24, 2022, the.au domain name will be awarded to one of them.

If you already own a.com.au or.net.au domain, you have first dibs on the matching
name in .au. If you want to claim priority in the.au domain name between March and
September 2022, you should purchase a similar Australian domain name by March
24, 2022.

Individuals, businesses, and organisations who want to register.au domain names
should do so by March 24, 2022, or risk losing them to someone else. Applications
must be submitted through registrars accredited by the Australian Domain
Administration (auDA) and are subject to auDA licensing requirements. If you want
a.au domain name, you should purchase a similar Australian domain name by March
24, 2022 in order to support a claim to priority in the.au domain name between
March and September 2022.

You can register a new domain name with one of the following accredited domain
registrars:
